Course introduction
The Managing Deterioration Safety Improvement Programme aims to reduce harm associated with physical deterioration by strengthening the Prevention, early Identification, Escalation, and Response (PIER) to deterioration. It focuses on improving system coordination and ensuring these processes are embedded within safe, reliable pathways of care.
The programme is part of the National Patient Safety Improvement Programmes commissioned by NHS England and is delivered as an ongoing national initiative.
Who is the course aimed at?
All staff that interact with the people you care for – registered nurses, healthcare assistants, catering, domestic, activities and maintenance staff.
What does the course cover?
- Recognising soft signs of deterioration using early warning tools – (Rockwood frailty scale, STOP & WATCH and SBARD)
Course outcomes
To be able to recognise, respond and communicate deterioration to the appropriate person.
