Who is the course aimed at?
This course will focus on the practical elements of a basic Moving and Handling course. It can be used as a stand-alone skills development course or if supported by a basic Moving and Handling theory course from online, workbooks or other resources, it will complete the mandatory Moving and Handling training for new and untrained staff.
Please note, attending this Moving and Handling Practical Session will not satisfy National Requirements for a complete Moving and Handling certificate. You will also need to access a theory based course to achieve full qualification.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Learners must be appropriately dressed to attend Moving and Handling training, for example, clothing should be comfortable and provide ease of movement, short skirts should be avoided.
Open toed shoes MUST NOT be worn due to the high risk of foot injury, learners wearing open toed shoes WILL NOT be allowed to participate and your employer will still be charged as it will be marked as a non-attendance.
At the end of this course all learners will be able to:

- Demonstrate safe ways of supporting a person to stand
- Demonstrate safe ways of supporting a person to sit down
- Demonstrate safe ways of supporting a person to walk
- Demonstrate safe ways of supporting a person to move forwards and backwards in a chair
- Demonstrate safe ways to support a person to stand using equipment
- Understand how LOLER applies to lifting equipment
- Demonstrate how to safely fit a sling and hoist from bed and chair
- Demonstrate the safe use of slide sheets
- Demonstrate the safe use of bed management systems (Wendy Lett sheets)
- Understand how to manage falls safely
COVID-19
Please ensure that all Learners attending training at our venue(s) are aware of the following:
- All learners must verbally confirm they have no symptoms of COVID-19 . Should a learner exhibit symptom(s) of COVID-19, or confirm they have symptoms but have not tested, then Partners in Care will provide a test kit at no cost to the learner’s employer to be carried out before entrance to the building is confirmed. If a learner has symptoms but can provide evidence of a negative test taken on the morning of the course, this will be sufficient to allow entrance.
