Several of our in-house Moving and Handling trainers enjoyed practical back care sessions led by Joanna Penney, a local Pilates trainer, at last week’s CPD workshop at our office in Annscroft near Shrewsbury.
Jo gave a theoretical overview of the way the body moves, with everyone taking part in practical exercises aimed at preventing or remedying common problems. The aim was to give our trainers simple tips on posture that they could take away with them to help themselves, their colleagues and the people they support. The sessions proved very popular, with excellent feedback received.
The workshops also included some discussion of novel assistive technologies such as digital assistants and research aimed at eventually developing smart trousers that might help people to stand independently, and a workshop session on how best to train colleagues on the laws surrounding moving and handling people.
In-house trainers are qualified to deliver Partners in Care moving and handling training within their organisations, supported by the moving and handling team at Partners in Care.
