Course introduction
This suctioning training course is aimed at anyone working in a care or nursing environment where suction may be required. It covers the theoretical and practical skills required to safely carry out oral suctioning on a resident. Our trainers will bring suction machines and all required consumable equipment with them for your staff to use on a mannequin during the training course.
Who is the course aimed at?
This half day course is suitable for nurses and social care staff.
What does the course cover?
• Suctioning equipment (machine and adaptors, including Yankauer and soft suction, and consumables)
• Care of the unit including filter replacement and periods
• Precautions and contraindications
• Indications for suctioning
• Gaining consent and respecting dignity
• Pressure adjustments and checks
• Infection control and PPE
• Practical session using mannequin, suction machine and consumables
Course outcomes
Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD accredited certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents.
